I know it's miserably hot and humid out there, but how are you doing on your assigned 400 Sits this week? Some of you have trained dogs, like Sam, so he doesn't need the 400 Sits, but you, as the owner/handler can and should be doing ALL 400 Sits (as taught already) with Fido so your mechanics are correct.
Remember, if it's to miserable outside you can do the Sits at home, in your basement, at a Pet Store (HUGE distractions there) some Lowe's & Home Depots allow dogs. OUR FAVORITE training place? The Bass Outdoor Pro Shop at Anne Arundel Outlet Mall. They allow dogs and you can spend hours training a dog while another family member goes shopping.
How is everyone doing?

Roxanne,
ReplyDeleteI feel that Gir is doing well in many of the exercises except the long down. I have many shaded areas to choose from outside but Gir doesn't seem to calm down long enough to lay down for more than a few seconds outside.
We live close to the Laurel lake and there are many distractions, but for Gir it is a really stressful event. I feel like his anxiety keeps getting worse the longer we are out there. Plus whenever he realizes we are going outside, he acts crazy and doesn't calm down at all. I know these are probably just "little dog tantrums" but he acts beyond insane.
He does a decent job inside, but even then it takes 2-3 hours for him to complete a long down for 30 consecutive minutes (and that is in our apartment where there are few to none distractions).
Also, I get home around 5, so after dinner there is not a lot of time to go outside to sit. Going to the mall after work is out of the question with traffic for the short amount of time I have and the anxiety would be just as bad if not worse.
So far he has done almost all of his 200 sits for the first three days and continues to do better on the longe line but the long down is torture. I know there aren't shortcuts and it takes patience, but what can be done with the limited time I have during the week? Out of all of the exercises, I feel this is one of the most important for Gir's behavior and anxiety issues. I really want to make it work but don't know what to do.
Thanks,
Cayla
